LITERARY LUNCH – MY LIFE AS A WIFE BY ELISABETH LUARD
‘We met, my beloved and I, in the back-offices of Private Eye some time around the satirical magazine's eleventh issue in 1962. He was the proprietor, I the office typist. As soon as Nicholas walked in, I had no doubt that this was the man of my dreams.
Whether the object of my affection realised this, I have no way of knowing, although I believe I made no secret of my intentions.
I was young at the time and knew no better. And how did I woo him? In the only way I knew. I cooked for him,’ wrote Elisabeth Luard in her moving memoir about her marriage. Elisabeth is currently a Contributing Editor to Waitrose Food Illustrated and reviews regularly in The Daily Mail, The Scotsman, The Jewish Chronicle and The Literary Review. Join this fascinating and resepcted food writer for lunch at Books for Cooks to hear speak about her fascinating life.

The first of its kind to be published in Europe, Lamees’ book enlightens the Western reader on how to make aubergine turnover served over a bed of rice and sliced potatoes (maqloobat bathinjan), rice kubba (kubbat halah) which is not unlike the Sicilian arancini, charcoal barbecued liver (mielag mashwee), citrus flower jam (murabba elqueddahh), and rose petal jam (murabba elwarid).
